The case for the 2017 Sentra NISMO and 2017 Maxima NISMO

The case for the 2017 Sentra NISMO and 2017 Maxima NISMO

Nissan has been mulling the idea of producing NISMO versions of its popular sedans for a few years now. It may be that the time has passed for the much-anticipated 2016 Sentra NISMO and/or 2016 Maxima NISMO. But we think they should go ahead and add to the performance lineup by creating a 2017 Sentra NISMO and a 2017 Maxima NISMO.

2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO

It’s been a while since Nissan offered a performance version of its popular small sedan. The old Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V was a 200-hp beast with sport suspension that made driving an affordable four-door sedan fun again. The concept they’ve teased in the last couple of years boosts the power to 240 hp and adds some snazzy styling details. It would be a great competitor for tuned compact sedans like the Volkswagen Jetta GLI, and cars like the Honda Civic, Ford Focus, Mazda3 and Toyota Corolla. We think they should go for it and make a 2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO, but the only way it’ll happen is if you ask for it.

2017 Nissan Maxima NISMO

It was exciting when Nissan unveiled the sport sedan concept that eventually became the new Maxima. And since then they’ve given us cool trim variations like the new 2016 Nissan Maxima Midnight Edition with factory installed appearance modifications. But we think they should take it a step further and make a NISMO model. Starting with the appearance mods of the Midnight Edition, they could reduce the vehicle’s weight, tweak the suspension and boost the horsepower to well over 300. The car could even feature all-wheel drive, something Nissan has already considered. With an upgraded V6 engine from Infiniti, it could be competitive with some of the popular full-size V8 sedans like the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger.
