Glow-in-the-dark Nissan Leaf EV coming to Matt Castrucci Nissan?

Nissan painted a Leaf EV in glow-in-the-dark paint, but the fun didn’t stop there. Recently the glowing Leaf EV took to Holland’s Smart Highway to add a whole other level of illumination to the innovative roadway.

The video shows the glow-in-the-dark Nissan Leaf EV looking slick driving on the innovative Smart Highway in an apparent preview of the future of transportation. There’s something about things that glow in the dark. It’s unnatural, but at the same time interesting and strange. When the Smart Highway is paired with the efficient Nissan Leaf EV, the result is a glowing delight.

A fully electric vehicle, the efficient Nissan Leaf EV sure looks at home on the innovative Smart Highway. Could glow-in-the-dark vehicles be the future? Only time will tell! Nissan in Europe is the first auto maker to apply this type of paint to a vehicle and may have started a trend.

What makes the Smart Highway so unique is it uses glow-in-the-dark paint made with photo-luminising powder that provides 10 hours of glow in the evening after charging in the sun. The Netherlands have embraced a high-tech makeover of the country’s highways and the Smart Highway is just the beginning. Designed by Studio Roosegaarde and the infrastructure management group Heijmans, this new concept was implemented in 2013 and replaces the traditional paint used on roads.

The concept only gets more creative and the designers are planning for the roads to glow with specially painted snowflakes for when the temperature drops. The major design organizations on the project recently signed a new partnership agreement for another three years to start the next phase of the concept.

While no glow-in-the-dark Nissan Leaf EV will be coming to Matt Castrucci Nissan anytime soon, our favorite auto maker sure knows how to have fun. Nissan hasn’t announced any plans to make a glow-in-the-dark Leaf EV available, but we’re hopeful it might happen one day!
