Five New Year’s resolutions for taking care of your car

How to keep your car in good shape this year

A vehicle is a commitment. You need to take care of it, so it can remain in good condition. However, we understand that it can fall low on your list of priorities. This year, if you’ve made a New Year’s Resolution to do better, take care of your things, and keep your car in good shape, then keep reading below to learn more about what you can do. We can help you with car care here at Matt Castrucci Nissan in Dayton, OH.

List of vehicle maintenance essentials

  1. Get a car wash in winter and spring
The salt on the roads is great for melting ice but not great for your vehicle. To prevent rust, get at least one car wash on a warm day in winter and another in spring after the snow has melted. It’ll take ten minutes out of your year but makes a huge difference. Mark your calendars now.
  2. Keep track of your oil change mileage
We know you’ve heard this one before, but it really is useful and will keep your car in good condition. Keep a journal in your glovebox to note down oil change mileage markers so you know when to get your next oil change.
  3. Replace those old windshield wipers
Windshield wipers aren’t meant to last forever. If yours aren’t doing the job well anymore, this is a quick and inexpensive fix. Better visibility could help prevent a crash and other issues.
  4. Clean out your car’s interior
This one’s for all of you who’ve been putting this off. Do a deep clean and keep it clean! Protect your car’s seats with seat covers and protect your floor with mats. The condition of your car’s interior is just as important for resale value, not to mention your own comfort.
  5. Check your tires for wear and tear
Pay attention to your tires. Look for wear and tear and keep them at an optimal psi. Trust us, you don’t want to be driving on underfilled tires or overworn tires.
