The standard engine given to the 2017 Nissan Altima is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that offers 179 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. Even with that much power and torque, this engine is still capable of delivering an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of up to 39 mpg on the highway. If you want even more power than that, Nissan’s legendary 3.5-liter V6 that puts out 270 horsepower and 251 lb-ft of torque is also available. This powerful yet efficient engine offers a fuel economy rating of up to 32 miles per gallon on the highway. Both 2017 Nissan Altima engine options send power to the front wheels through Nissan’s Xtronic CVT® transmission.
