How to change a flat tire on a Nissan Versa Note

Our tires experience a great deal of stress in the colder months, so we want to ensure our drivers are prepared in the event of a blowout or flat. We’re sharing a step-by-step guide with tips on how to change a flat tire on a Nissan Versa Note. Our aim is to keep drivers confident and in control even if they experience a minor vehicle issue.

Tips for changing a flat tire

Before changing the tire

  1. If possible and safe, move the Versa Note to an area away from traffic
  2. Engage hazard warning lights
  3. Park on a flat, level surface, apply the parking brake
    • in a manual, shift into reverse
    • in an automatic, shift into park
  4. Turn off the engine
  5. Block the wheels
    • for example, if the flat is the back driver-side tire, place blocks in front and behind the front passenger-side tire
  6. In a Versa Note, the spare should be located in the rear hatch under the Divide-N-Hide floor
    • lift the floorboard
  7. Remove the tools from the storage area
  8. Loosen the bolt counterclockwise to release the spare
  9. Stop loosening the bolt when the spare is lowered enough to be removed from the hook

Removing the flat tire

  1. Turn the wheel nuts counterclockwise using the wrench without removing them from the wheel
  2. Position the jack under the lip of the car called the jack-up point so it is level to the ground
    • the jack should fit in between the two notches in the front or rear parts of the vehicle
  3. Hold the jack lever and rod securely
  4. Raise the vehicle until the wheel is lifted off the ground
  5. Completely remove the wheel nuts
  6. Remove the flat tire

Installing the spare

  1. Position the tire onto the wheel
  2. Add the wheel nuts to the wheel and tighten by hand
  3. Use the wrench to tighten the nuts slightly more securely
  4. Lower the Versa Note until the wheel touches the ground
  5. Fully tighten the wheel nuts in an alternating position (top nut, bottom nut, left nut, right nut)
  6. Safely store the flat tire and jack tools
  7. Make sure the spare tire is at the appropriate air pressure level (found on the inside edge of the driver-side door)
